LIFE SIZE EQUINE WORKS IN OIL CONTEMPORARY EQUINE PAINTINGS HELD IN PRIVATE COLLECTIONS GLOBALLY

Commissioning a portrait

Commissioning a portrait is a considered and private process.

Each painting is created to honour the presence, character, and significance of a single horse, resulting in a work intended to endure beyond a lifetime.

Each portrait is approached as an heirloom work, created with care, restraint, and deep respect for the subject.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Commissions are suited to collectors and equestrian families who value craftsmanship, scale, and emotional depth.

Typical commissions include:

  • Horses of personal or competitive significance

  • Retired or late horses to be remembered and honoured

  • Private collections seeking museum-quality equine portraiture

Each commission is approached individually and with discretion.

01
CONVERSATION & REFERENCE

Each commission begins with a private conversation to understand the horse, its history, and the collector’s intention.

If feasible, Jess comes to meet and photograph the horse.
Photographic references are then discussed and selected with care.

THE PROCESS

02
PAINTING

The portrait is developed slowly in layers of oil, with attention to anatomy, presence, and individuality.
Collectors are kept informed at key stages without interrupting the integrity of the process.

03
COMPLETION & DELIVERY

The finished work is varnished, signed, and delivered ready for framing or installation.

International shipping is easily arranged.

MATERIALS & SCALE

All works are painted in oil on canvas using archival materials.
Commissions are typically life-size or large-format, allowing the horse’s presence to be fully realised.

Exact dimensions are discussed during the commissioning process.
